Learn from old photos.History shows what endures.
Move in closer.Fill the frame; cut the clutter.
When cropping look upside down.Flip it to see composition, not content.
Experiment.Try the “what if”—then keep the keeper.
Look for nifty stuff.Small details make big pictures.
Be prepared.Charged batteries, empty cards, plan beats luck.
Plain is good.Simplicity lets your subject breathe.
Ignore rules, sometimes.Know them—then break them with intent.
Shade is your friend.Soft light = kinder faces, richer color.
Look sharp.Focus the eyes; steady the hands.

The tips have been learned over the past 70 years of taking photos, during which time I have served as a portrait, wedding, dog show, and flower show photographer. I have also written a book on wedding photography and provided articles for such diverse publications as the New York Times, Staten Island Advance, and American Kennel Club Gazette. In addition, I've spoken at garden clubs, the Alice Austen Museum and more. :)
